5 Ingredient Sausage and Pepper Penne- easy and delicious, this is the perfect 20 minute weeknight meal.
Ingredients You’ll Need:
- Penne pasta. You can substitute any other pasta of your liking.
- Spicy Italian Sausage. You can also sub mild Italians sausage if some people don’t like spice and can always add red pepper flakes to the ones that do.
- Red bell pepper.
- Shallot. You can also sub white or yellow onion but I love shallots in this recipe!
- Marinara. (I love using a vodka sauce with this recipe)
- Garlic powder, optional item.
- Parmesan, for topping, optional item.
- Salt + pepper.

5 Ingredient Sausage and Pepper Penne
20 minute 5 Ingredient pasta! YES PLEASE! This Sausage and pepper penne is so easy and so delicious. Whip this up on a busy weeknight and everyone will be happy!

Ingredients
- 1 lb penne pasta, cooked per instructions on package
- 1 lb Spicy Italian Sausage, sausage links or bulk.
- 2 medium sized red bell peppers, medium dice
- 1 large shallot, thinly sliced and chopped
- 1–24 oz jar marinara of choice (I love the Trader Joe’s Organic vodka sauce with this recipe)
- 1 tsp garlic powder, optional
- Parmesan, for topping, optional
- salt + pepper
Other add-in ideas:
- Fresh garlic
- Fresh Spinach
- Parsley or basil, as garnish
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium high heat. Add 1-2 T olive oil and sausage. If using links, remove the casing and break into pieces. Break up with the back of your spoon and when the sausage is almost cooked, add in shallots and red bell peppers. Saute for another few minutes until peppers start to soften.
- Pour in marinara, salt, pepper, and garlic powder & simmer over low heat.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add a generous amount of salt and pasta and cook until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup pasta water.
- Add cooked pasta and reserved pasta water to skillet with sauce and toss to combine.
- Top with a generous amount of parmesan and toss again. Serve warm in bowls with more parmesan and enjoy!!
